Iowa Speedway rules and regs
NOTE: Rules and regs are based on car racing.
Apply rules and regs where applicable for motorcycles
All Non Street Legal vehicles are also allowed to Test and Tune at the Iowa Speedway as long as they meet NHRA rules and regulations.
NHRA rules as far as 6:40 and a 6:00 bike could run if has good brakes. Please remember there is no traction compound on the track so too much and they just spin.
STREET LEGAL CLASS RULES:
Batteries/Ballast
Batteries must be secured per OEM, or with minimum of 2, 3/8 inch diameter bolts (No bungee cords, straps, etc.). Loose ballast is not permitted on the racetrack, so be prepared to empty trunks and interiors of all loose items. Spare tires, jacks, etc. must be securely mounted or must be removed. Tools, jack stands, coolers, loose speakers, etc. are considered loose ballast and are not permitted on the racetrack.
Driveshaft Loops
Required on cars (7.35) or Quicker equipped with street tires.
Driver
Must have a valid state driver’s license and valid proof of insurance. No shorts, bare legs, tank tops, bare torsos permitted while racing! Any drivers under the age of 18 must have a minor waiver signed by both parents before they will be allowed to compete. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Electronics
No aftermarket electronic devices such as throttle stops, delay boxes, etc. are allowed
Exhaust
Open Headers Are ALLOWED.
Helmet
Required in any vehicle quicker than (8.59) seconds in the eighth mile. Helmet must meet 2000 SNELL or better standards (A label inside the helmet is proof of SNELL acceptance).
Lines & hoses
All fuel, transmission, brake and power steering lines must be secure and free of leak. All leaks must be repaired before you can compete! NO EXCEPTIONS!
Minors
Any participant under the age of 18 must have a minor waiver signed by both parents and legal guardian. This form must be completed in front of track official or be signed in front of a Notary Public.
Motorcycles
Front and rear brakes, chain guards, snapback throttle mandatory. Any pressurized container (air shifter, nitrous bottles) must have DOT approved #1800 cylinder. All riders must have full face helmet of 2000 Snell or better, Leather jacket, Leather boots/shoes above the ankle, Leather gloves and full length jeans mandatory for all riders.
Neutral Safety Switch
All vehicles must be equipped with an operational Neutral Safety Switch. The neutral safety switch prevents the vehicle’s starter from turning the engine over unless the transmission is in Park or Neutral (or unless the clutch pedal is depressed with a manual transmission)
Nitrous Oxide
Bottles must be stamped as meeting DOT 1800 pound standards and must securely mounted (no bungee cords, straps, hose clamps, etc.). All fittings, hoses, etc. must be compatible, from same manufacturer, vented to outside of driver compartment.
Radiator
Radiator overflow catch tank mandatory on all vehicles
Roll Bars
Roll Bar required in all vehicles running between 6.40 and 7.35 seconds in the 1/8 mile, convertibles between 7.00 and 8.59. Roll bar structures must meet minimum NHRA standards as found in the current NHRA Rulebook*.
Seats
Must be securely fastened to floor or frame with minimum 4 attaching bolts and nuts (No sheet metal screws)*.
Seat Belts
All vehicles must have as a minimum, an OEM type lap belt system, securely mounted to frame or floor, per OEM*. Cars 7.35 and quicker must have 3 inch SFI spec 16.1 Belts.
Tires
RACING SLICKS OK !!
Turbo’s and Super Chargers
Allowed but must meet ET Requirements
Vehicle Must be a street legal car, truck or motorcycle currently registered for street use. No vehicles quicker than 6.40 seconds in the eighth mile.
Wheels
All wheel studs, with full compliment of lugnuts required (Broken studs/missing lugs must be replaced before racing). Hubcaps must be removed for lug inspection.
*When 1/8th mile elapsed times are quicker than 7.35 seconds, specialized racing equipment required.
For example, when a roll bar or cage is required, so is an approved 5-point shoulder harness assembly.
