Named as short order/quick response brand of the year by Drapers magazine, Motel Rocks fashion defines woman as very individualistic and fashion conscious. Their killer-style clothesline has a pinch of retro and more of punk styling. This is what has caught the imagination of women who love to dress in clothes that reflect tons of attitude!

The fun-filled vibrant designs define their attitude. The perfectly tailored creations are inspired by vintage styling. They also reflect punk trends. This unique punk-retro mixture has caught the eyes of celebrities like Duffy and Kate Nash who were seen in Motel Rock dresses. It has become so common to see celebrities flaunting their designs that magazines like Cosmopolitan and now also publish their creations.

Their collection at Ministry of Fashion has put up colourful and varied designs on display for every hipster motorcycle rider. Their luxurious creations come in very competitive prices. For example, Motel Ellie dress in black, with chiffon for the skirt and Hali sleeveless with net finish around waist are bewitching and just right for special night outs.

A lot of excitement surrounds obtaining your motorcycle endorsement and your first motorcycle. For first time riders, this achievement takes a lot of hard work and dedication. However, it’s important that riders remember the more mundane aspects of biking as well. Once you’ve obtained your M endorsement and are embarking on the hunt for your first bike, it is vital that you look into the different options you have for motorcycle insurance as well. The cost of insurance can depend heavily on the type of motorbike you decide to purchase and ride.

Understanding Pricing

There are several things that can influence the price of coverage on a motorcycle. Motorcycles with high horsepower are typically more expensive to insure. This price tag can be due to the larger engine, turbocharger, or other power booster. The make and style of a bike will contribute to the cost of insurance to some degree or another. Standard motorcycles, cruisers, and dual sport bikes tend to be cheaper to insure than sport bikes and higher performance machines. The biggest price difference in insurance options depends on the type of coverage you decide to purchase. These are some of the most common and useful motorcycle insurance options available.

Step One: Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability

Liability insurance covers the cost of any damage you do to other persons or property while utilizing your motorcycle. This insurance option is legally required for all bike riders, where as other coverage types are typically optional. Liability insurance is the first coverage you should look into and purchase. When choosing between insurance packages, it’s usually wise to find the option with the higher liability coverage. Bills can add up very, very quickly if personal injuries are sustained because of an accident. Traditionally, liability coverage is noted with three different numbers: one for bodily injury per person, one for bodily injury per accident, and one for property damage. Other types of coverage include comprehensive and collision coverage, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, medical payment coverage, custom parts and equipment coverage, roadside assistance, and many others.

Iowan’s prayers for much needed rain came at the worst time. A slow moving thunderstorm targeted the Iowa Speedway in Newton Iowa and hammered it most of the day Saturday. As we watched the radar before we hit the road to the rally, the storm was like an arrow pointing at the motorcycle rally bearing down with vengeance.

With time, we figured the path of the storm was going to continue East and South and move out of the area. So we hopped on my Harley Dyna Super Glide and hit the road for the Iowa Speedway.

We enjoyed a nice back roads motorcycle ride and stopped by the Thirsty Turtle bar in Colfax Iowa. We met some very nice people there. In fact, they were so nice they helped us get our bike running again. For some reason we had a dead battery!

I’m a bigger fella and for some reason I couldn’t even pop the clutch with a push start. The back tire just skidded and wouldn’t turn the motor. Like I said, we met some nice people that give us a few tools and a jump start.

Problem was, this thunderstorm was back building and hit us hard right as we got the bike running again. So what’s a guy to do? Welp, we left it running in the rain and spent some more time inside the Thirsty Turtle. That seemed the most sensible thing to do.

After the rain let up some we hit the road to the motorcycle rally. The rain was terrible but we trudged on hoping the sun would make an appearance soon.

But alas, this wouldn’t come true and after navigating to the soakedSpeedwaywe didn’t stay as the bikers were leaving already.

Since then, we’ve heard quite a few people talking about the rally in both good terms and not so good. Here’s a few Facebook posts:

“Thanks for the fun weekend! The crew running the meet and greets did a fantastic job! Especially the woman taking photos for everyone. I wanted to personally thank her but didn’t get the chance. Can’t wait for next year! (FYI…. Charlie Hunnam should come back…just sayin’…)”

“I realize it was their first year and that is why I posted my comments. Let’s hope they read them and take them as constructive criticism. I spoke with several people at the rally yesterday and they expressed their displeasure and disappointment both with the layout and the cost to get in. I kept hearing the same sentiment, “there is nothing here.” Why would you come back to nothing?”

“BEST WEEKEND EVER!!!!! First class good time all the way! Can’t wait for next year, we’ll be making it an annual four day event. THANKS!”

“I agree that the “special” wristbands should have been in the info at the beginning.Iowais a WORKING state! Not everyone can be there early in the morning. SO overpriced…this whole thing was just a ploy on the biker community to make money for the speedway. you blew it, wont have many people if you decide to do it again, which you shouldn’t if you cant do a better job!”

Without a doubt the Iowa Grand Motorcycle Rally had some issues but we are sure they will be worked out by next year.

By the way, we were open to covering the rally but were never asked. Hell, our office is half an hour away from the Iowa Speedway and ummm, we’re a “Motorcycle Magazine.” In 2009 we even rented theSpeedwayand held our own motorcycle drag racing event titled Hole Shot 09. Not sure who the media sponsor really was either. We heard some things about Cycle Source magazine but they didn’t have anything posted on their website or their Facebook.

Cheers to better luck next year!

Throttler Motorcycle Magazine has been on the scene in Iowa covering Harley Davidson motorcycles for 4 years now, going on our 5th year. We have been to the big rallies such as Sturgis and Daytona saying hello to all of our friends.

We especially like to meet and greet motorcycle riders who don’t care what brand they ride. No matter what two wheels they ride the only thing that matters is their knees in the wind.

custom made motorcycles

That said, there are still quite a few riders out there that can’t get past the American Made aspect of what Harley Davidson represents to them. With their custom printed tshirts and rhinestones on shirts.

Harley Davidson in IA and all US states commands the majority of the market, as well all know. However, considering the rest of the world is much bigger, we have to consider the other manufacturers. Such as Honda motorcycles, Kawasaki, KTM, Yamaha, BMW, Suzuki and every other brand.

Consider the fact that not all motorcycle riders are into Harley Davidsons. They ride dirt bikes, cruisers, motocross, MX, Superbike, MotoGP and Flat Track racing on multiple brands of motorcycles.

This is neither an opinion nor a dig at Harley. We are only hoping that motorcycle riders and throttler motorcycle magazine readers alike can respect everyone on the road

A month after my father in law passed away a few years ago, I found myself fixing a drain pipe in my basement. The drain exhaust pipe was hidden in the wall and capped with a wooden door.

Throttler Magazine

This door would give a home owner access to the plug in the drain pipe, and easy access to clearing clogs. Hopefully, when a person opened this plug the water level would be below and not above. If it were above the plug, your custom printed t-shirt would be a mess for sure!

As I began unscrewing four screws – they were all the same type – and I laid them down on the floor. I told my admiring son how important it was to keep track of your parts when making a repair to anything. Just like we always did when fixing our ATV and Harley Davidson motorcycle. He nodded and we tackled the task together.

This type of repair would have been great if my father in law was around to help, but we would have to be on our own this time. After 2 days and much time poking and prodding we unplugged the pipe. It seems that shrimp and potato peelings make a nice thick glue.

As I began to button up my handy work, I reached for the four screws on the floor where I had left them and noticed all of the screws were now different colors and sizes.

This was perplexing to say the least because of the “incident” in the house two weeks earlier. How in the world could these four screws change, I wondered. I asked everyone in the family if they might be messing with me and everyone denied taking part in any shenanigans.

Three days passed and I believed my house to be taken up by my father in law’s spirit. I believed I was losing my mind but also felt comfort in having him around for just a little longer. The “incidents” that had occurred in the house all seemed to make sense, now.

As a last ditch resort I drilled my family one last time as a hard-ass cop might do at a murder scene. “WHO DID IT?,” I asked! “WHO TOOK THE SCREWS AND REPLACED THEM?,” I shrieked!

And with the mightiest of courage like a Honda dirt bike rider stepping up to the front line, my six year old young son piped up and said, “I did, dad.”

He had wanted to hang a motorcycle magazine article in his room and needed a few screws to do it. So he took my matching four screws from the floor and later replaced them with four mismatched screws he found in my tool box. Little did he know his plan had such a flaw.

He had no idea the power of suggestion four little screws had over me at the time. He returned to me the original screws and we both hung his article and placed the drain pipe cover back on together.

We imagined grandpa at our side and smiled hoping he had been watching.
